We create homes and living environments where beauty has a purpose, comfort is carefully considered and each decision contributes to the character and lasting value of the whole.

Who we are

A creative vision. An integrated way of working.

Jessica Bataille is a design-led lifestyle company based in Jávea, on Spain’s Costa Blanca. What began as a small shop by the sea has evolved into a group connecting interior design, property development, hospitality and technology.

Our work starts with people: how they live, what they need and what makes a place feel right. From there, we bring together proportion, light, materials and the practical demands of a project to create spaces that are both distinctive and genuinely comfortable.

Creative direction and business judgement belong in the same conversation. A clear design identity must be supported by thoughtful planning, financial discipline and careful coordination throughout delivery. Technology adds a practical layer: clearer information, better organisation and greater transparency in the experience of developing, buying and living in a property.

Our international outlook is grounded in a deliberately local practice. Jávea is where our relationships, knowledge and understanding of Mediterranean living have developed over three decades. It remains the centre of our work.

Across private homes, residential developments and heritage projects, the intention is consistent: to create places that belong to their setting, serve the people who use them and retain their relevance over time.

We design for the way people live. We develop with a long-term view.

How we create value

From a clear idea to a well-considered whole.

Our approach connects the creative, practical and commercial dimensions of a project. None should be developed in isolation.

  1. 01

    Design with purpose.

We consider a home as a complete environment: its layout, circulation, light, material palette, furnishings and relationship with the outdoors. Beauty should make everyday life better, not make it more complicated.

  2. 02

    Development with discipline.

We look beyond a property’s immediate appearance to understand its potential and the work required to realise it. Design decisions need to be considered alongside technical requirements, costs, timing and the intended use of the asset.

  3. 03

    Continuity through delivery.

Creative intention matters only if it survives the decisions made throughout a project. Our role is to connect the overall vision with the details of execution, working with the relevant specialists and delivery partners within each agreed scope.

  4. 04

    Technology in service of people.

Better information should make complex decisions easier to understand. Our interest in technology is practical: supporting coordination, making property information more accessible and bringing clarity to the client experience.

Be Local

A sense of place is built through attention.

BE LOCAL is the principle that connects our work.

It means understanding the light, the climate, the materials and the ways of living that give Jávea its character. It means valuing local craftsmanship, learning from existing buildings and creating spaces that feel connected to their surroundings rather than imported into them.

Our Mediterranean identity is expressed through more than an aesthetic. It is present in the relationship between indoors and outdoors, the use of shade, the choice of natural textures and the balance between shared spaces and privacy.

An international perspective allows us to bring different experiences and expectations into the work. A local presence gives those ideas context.

Our story

Thirty years of learning how people live.

What began with a small shop in Jávea has grown through a succession of practical questions: how to make a room feel right, how to create a complete home, and how to extend that care into the experiences around it. Each chapter has added something to the way we work today.

  1. Chapter 01

    1996 — Rust & Co

    The Port of Jávea

A small shop by the sea. A way of working built around listening.

Read the full storyClose the story

Jessica’s journey began with Rust & Co in the port of Jávea. Furniture and objects were the starting point, but the work was already about people: listening carefully, understanding how they lived and helping them make choices that felt right for their homes. That attention to everyday life became the foundation of the company.

  2. Chapter 02

    1998 — The First Warehouse

More space to experiment. A wider view of the whole room.

Read the full storyClose the story

The first warehouse created room to bring furniture, objects and interiors together. The practice moved beyond individual pieces towards complete settings, allowing ideas to be tested through proportion, material and the relationships between things. It was an early step from retail towards a broader design practice.

  3. Chapter 03

    2003 — Madrid

A wider creative world. Greater complexity in making ideas real.

Read the full storyClose the story

Madrid expanded the practice across interiors, retail and work connected with cinema. New settings and more complex creative production sharpened Jessica’s attention to execution as well as atmosphere. The experience broadened her perspective without replacing the Mediterranean sensibility that had shaped the work from the beginning.

  4. Chapter 04

    2007 — The Atelier

    The Lifestyle Company

Not simply a shop. A place where a creative world came together.

Read the full storyClose the story

A warehouse inspired by New York lofts became The Atelier: white walls, generous windows, art books, furniture and objects brought together in an open creative setting. The idea was not to separate art, design and everyday living, but to let them inform one another. The Lifestyle Company gave a name to this broader approach, with reuse and curation already part of its character.

  5. Chapter 05

    2010 — Choosing Jávea

A deliberate choice to build with greater depth in one place.

Aerial view over the rooftops of Jávea's old town towards the Montgó
Jávea today — a present-day view, not an archive image.
Read the full storyClose the story

Working between Madrid and Jávea clarified a direction. Jávea was not a limitation to overcome, but a place in which to build a more rooted and intentional business. Local knowledge, relationships and a close understanding of Mediterranean living became central to the company’s development.

  6. Chapter 06

    2013 — Bataille Living

    From Interiors to Complete Homes

Designing, developing and living with the results.

Read the full storyClose the story

Bataille Living extended the practice into complete homes: designing, renovating and experiencing them before sale. The early journey included Maison Amour, a Mediterranean home by architect Manuel Jorge, followed by Ca Olivia and Ca La Pinada. This work brought a more demanding understanding of comfort, durability and daily use, alongside an increasing commitment to bioclimatic design.

  7. Chapter 07

2020 — The Stay Residences & Shop Your Space

Extending the experience beyond the design of the home.

Read the full storyClose the story

The Stay Residences brought a hospitality perspective to carefully renovated Mediterranean homes. Shop Your Space extended the relationship with interiors through an online platform for discovering and selecting pieces. Together, they broadened the company’s work from creating a property to considering how people experience, use and furnish it.

  8. Chapter 08

    2022 — Share Your Space

A wider sense of responsibility around the spaces we create.

Read the full storyClose the story

The consolidation of Bataille Living was accompanied by the creation of Share Your Space, an association with a solidarity purpose. It added a social dimension to the wider story, distinct from the company’s commercial activities and investment projects.

  9. Chapter 09

    2024 — Pop in Home

    Transparency & Data

Making clearer information part of the property experience.

Read the full storyClose the story

Pop in Home represents a practical application of technology: giving buyers a clearer understanding of a property through better access to relevant information. The ambition is to make the home-buying process more transparent and decisions better informed, without replacing the human knowledge needed to interpret a home and its possibilities.

  10. Chapter 10

    2025 — A More Integrated Model

Creative direction, delivery and investment thinking brought closer together.

Nearly three decades of practice converged into a more integrated way of working. Design, project coordination and investment thinking were brought into closer alignment, connecting the identity of each project with the practical and commercial decisions required to deliver it. An international outlook remained grounded in local execution.

Ca La Mer

Contemporary comfort, without losing a sense of place.

Ca La Mer develops the relationship between Passivhaus-certified construction and Mediterranean materiality through a compact, carefully resolved home.

Stone, wood and terracotta bring warmth and texture, while advanced insulation, solar panels and integrated building systems address the practical demands of contemporary living. Lighting, sound, climate control and pool systems are considered as parts of one coordinated environment.

The project is not defined by a contrast between tradition and technology, but by the care with which the two are brought together. Its spaces remain connected to the sea, the light and the landscape, while its technical systems support everyday use.

What it demonstrates

The integration of material character, spatial efficiency and building technology.

02

Domaine de Vos

Character through proportion, material and restraint.

Domaine de Vos explores a quieter expression of Mediterranean architecture. Lime-finished walls, terracotta floors and timber beams establish a warm material palette, while subtle curves soften the geometry of the spaces.

Inside, stone, earthy tones and handcrafted details provide depth without visual excess. Outside, porches, pergolas and a green-mosaic pool extend the living areas into the landscape, creating places for shade, gathering and retreat.

The coherence comes from the relationship between these elements: how a room opens to a terrace, how light meets a textured wall, and how the same material language continues from one space to the next.

What it demonstrates

A recognisable design identity built through consistency rather than excess.

03

Ca La Siesta

Building performance, expressed through Mediterranean living.

Ca La Siesta brings Passivhaus-certified construction into a distinctly Mediterranean setting. The project reflects years of exploration into how architecture, technical performance and everyday comfort can work together.

Its approach combines solar orientation and shading with high-performance insulation and airtight construction. Aerothermal systems, integrated climate control and home automation support the experience without defining its appearance.

Terraces, natural light and an infinity pool maintain a close relationship with the outdoors. The result is a home where the technical work sits behind a calm, considered way of living.

For the Group, Ca La Siesta represents an important principle: environmental performance should be part of the design from the outset, rather than an addition at the end.

What it demonstrates

Building performance as an integral part of design quality.

Ca La Masía

A new use for an existing story.

Originally a raisin factory, Ca La Masía shows how an existing building can be adapted without losing the qualities that make it distinctive.

Tosca stone arches and terracotta floors preserve a tangible connection to Jávea’s architectural and agricultural heritage. Around them, restrained interiors, natural textures and carefully considered finishes create a contemporary home without disguising its origins.

Mediterranean planting extends that approach outdoors, allowing the garden and the building to read as parts of the same setting.

The project is an expression of a principle that now informs the Group’s heritage work: begin with what deserves to remain, understand what needs to change, and give the building a useful next chapter.

What it demonstrates

Adaptive reuse that connects architectural identity with contemporary living.

Ca L’Àmfora and Other Projects

A complete home, considered at every scale.

Ca L’Àmfora brings Mediterranean arches, craftsmanship and contemporary systems together in a three-storey villa designed around varied ways of spending time at home.

Five en-suite bedrooms are complemented by a reading lounge, private cinema and bar. Natural light and sea views shape the experience, while shaded terraces, landscaped gardens and a Bali-stone pool extend daily life outdoors.

Solar panels, integrated climate control and home automation support the home’s practical operation. Their role is to serve the architecture and its occupants, not compete with them.

From shared gathering spaces to quieter rooms, the project is considered as a complete living environment rather than a collection of individual features.

What it demonstrates

The coordination of architecture, interiors, amenities and outdoor living.

Other projects

Further homes and interiors from the wider body of work, shaped by the same attention to light, curves, lime and natural materials.

The intention is to preserve the qualities that give these properties their identity — their proportions, materials and relationship with the streets around them — while adapting them to contemporary use.

The proposed programme brings together living spaces, hospitality, gastronomy, wellbeing and creative activity. Each building is considered individually, while contributing to a broader vision for a more active and connected old town.

For Jessica Bataille, heritage is not simply an aesthetic reference. It is an opportunity to work with what already exists, retain what matters and give an asset a credible purpose for the future.

Building on what makes Jessica Bataille distinctive.

Our next phase is about strengthening the connections between design, development, hospitality and technology while preserving the quality and identity of our work.

We intend to deepen our residential expertise, apply our approach to the renewal of existing buildings and improve the way projects are organised, delivered and experienced. Heritage Jávea and Casa Tosalet are part of that evolution, alongside the Group’s established work in homes and interiors.

Growth will be considered through the quality of the opportunity and the resources it requires. The ambition is to take on projects where our creative judgement, local knowledge and development experience can make a meaningful contribution.

  • A clear identity.
  • Selective development.
  • Greater continuity from vision to delivery.

Founder, CEO & Creative Director

Jessica Bataille

An interior designer and entrepreneur with Dutch-Lebanese roots and a life shaped by Jávea, Jessica has built a practice around how people truly live. Since opening Rust & Co in 1996, she has extended that attention from objects and interiors to complete homes, hospitality and the wider experience of place.

Her journey is told year by year in Our story.

Read Jessica’s storyClose Jessica’s story

Jessica Bataille is an interior designer and entrepreneur whose work begins with people: how they move through a room, what makes them comfortable and the atmosphere they want around them.

Raised in Jávea and shaped by her Dutch-Lebanese heritage, she began her entrepreneurial journey with Rust & Co in 1996. The practice expanded through Gata de Gorgos and Madrid before The Lifestyle Company brought a broader creative vision into focus in 2007. Design, art, objects and reuse became parts of one way of thinking about living.

With the creation of Bataille Living in 2013, Jessica moved from interiors to complete homes. Designing, renovating and living with those projects deepened her understanding of proportion, durability and comfort. Bioclimatic principles, natural materials and local craftsmanship became increasingly important to the work.

The Stay Residences and Shop Your Space extended that approach into hospitality and the experience of furnishing a home. Share Your Space added a distinct social dimension, while Pop in Home brought attention to the information available to property buyers.

As Founder, CEO and Creative Director, Jessica combines creative authorship with entrepreneurial responsibility. She guides the identity of the Group and the experience its projects should create. Her work is not defined by a single decorative style, but by coherence: between a building and its setting, between materials and light, and between the spaces she imagines and the lives they are intended to support.

Jean Clauteaux is a French-Venezuelan entrepreneur whose career connects international business leadership, technology and the practical work of building organisations.

Raised in the Amazon, he went on to spend more than twenty years at L’Oréal. His responsibilities included Marketing and Sales Director in France, General Manager for Eastern Europe and the Middle East based in Dubai, and President and CEO of L’Oréal Venezuela from 2011 to 2016. These roles brought experience of working across cultures, leading teams and coordinating strategy with commercial execution.

In 2016, he founded URIJI, a technology platform and social network, which he led until 2021. That entrepreneurial chapter extended his work into digital products and communities, alongside his experience of established international businesses.

At Jessica Bataille, Jean serves as COO and General Manager. His focus is the connection between intention and execution: clear responsibilities, financial discipline, operational coordination and the structures that help projects move forward with continuity.

Working alongside Jessica, he brings a complementary perspective to the business. The purpose is not to standardise the creative work, but to give it a sound operational foundation — connecting the identity of a project with the resources, decisions and responsibilities needed to deliver it.

The team behind the work

Jessica Bataille’s projects bring together creative direction, interiors, project coordination and specialist expertise.

Working with architects, technical consultants, craftspeople and delivery partners, the aim is to keep each contribution connected to the overall intention. The scope and responsibilities of each participant are defined for the individual project.
